I was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Reston, Virginia. I was lucky: the Reston of my boyhood was noted for its striking architecture and sophisticated planning. That exposure has marked much of my work.
I received a bachelor of arts in art history from the University of Virginia. My focus was on Asian art. After working as a chef and then for a noted furniture designer, I attended Virginia Tech (VPI) and earned a Master of Architecture.
I've lived in Carrboro thirty years. My life, personal and professional, has been here. My children grew up in Carrboro. I have served on Town boards and commissions. I have been a friend, a neighbor and a citizen. I'm fortunate to live and work here.
