I was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Reston, Virginia. I was lucky: the Reston of my boyhood was noted for its striking architecture and sophisticated planning. That exposure has marked much of my work.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in art history from the University of Virginia. My focus was on Asian art. After working as a chef and then for a noted furniture designer, I attended Virginia Tech (VPI) and earned a Master of Architecture. In the middle of my career as an architect I attended N.C. I received a Bachelor of Arts in art history from the University of Virginia. My focus was on Asian art. After working as a chef and then for a noted furniture designer, I attended Virginia Tech (VPI) and earned a Master of Architecture. In the middle of my career as an architect I attended N.C. Central University and received a Juris Doctorate and subsequently passed the North Carolina Bar examination, now moved to inactive status.
I've lived in Carrboro since 1990. My life, personal and professional, has been here. My children, Zack and Rhey, grew up in Carrboro. I've retired after practicing architecture thirty five years.
